If there is one thing I’ve learned as a photographer, it’s that sometimes the most unforgettable sessions are the ones that don’t go according to plan. Our Parker County Class of 2027 Senior Rep Team officially kicked off the year with their first themed session at Eagle Mountain State Park: patriotic, red, white, and blue vibes—and what started as a beautiful summer evening quickly turned into an adventure none of us will ever forget.
Thankfully, some of the best memories—and photos—often come from the unexpected.
From the moment we started planning this session, I knew I wanted it to feel like summertime nostalgia.
Think classic Americana. Vintage Coca-Cola bottles. Waving American flags. Bright smiles. Cedar fence posts.
The kind of evening that feels like a scene from an old movie where friends gather together, laugh until their stomachs hurt, and make memories they’ll talk about for years.
The girls arrived dressed perfectly for the theme, bringing their own personalities and energy to the shoot. Some wore classic denim, others incorporated pops of patriotic colors, and together they created the perfect blend of fun, friendship, and summertime spirit.
As a photographer, one of my favorite things about Senior Rep Team shoots is watching complete strangers become friends. There’s something special about bringing together students from different schools and backgrounds and watching connections form right in front of my camera.
Before long, everyone was laughing, chatting, and helping each other pose like they’d known each other forever.
At first, the weather looked cooperative. The clouds were hanging around, but nothing seemed too concerning. Then Texas decided to be Texas & within minutes, those distant clouds turned into dark storm clouds. The wind picked up (so much for setting up early and having everything ready to go!)
The temperature dropped. And suddenly we found ourselves scrambling for cover as rain began pouring from the sky. Not exactly the golden summer evening we had envisioned.
As photographers, we spend a lot of time planning sessions around weather, light, and timing. But one thing you can never fully control is Mother Nature.
Instead of packing everything up and calling it a day, we decided to embrace the adventure.
One of the most memorable parts of the evening happened when our entire group ended up taking shelter under a barn amidst a big hole in the roof, fitting in where we could, while the rain came down around us. Everyone squeezed together, trying to stay dry while watching sheets of rain move across the landscape.
And honestly?
Those moments might have been my favorite part of the entire session. There was so much laughter. So many “Can you believe this is happening right now?” moments. The girls made the absolute best of the situation, and instead of letting the weather ruin the evening, they turned it into part of the story.
Sometimes that’s exactly what senior year is about. Plans change. Unexpected things happen. You adapt. You laugh.
And often those become the memories you treasure most.
Then, almost as quickly as the storm arrived, it began to move away. The rain slowed. The clouds started to break. And suddenly the most beautiful light began to appear.
Photographers often talk about chasing light, and this was one of those moments that reminds me why.
The storm left behind dramatic skies, rich colors, and a softness in the atmosphere that simply can’t be manufactured. The landscape looked completely transformed. Everything felt fresh. The grass glowed. The skies became layered with texture. The air carried that unmistakable post-rain feeling that makes summer evenings feel magical.
And that’s when the magic really began.
As we stepped back out into the open, I immediately knew we had an opportunity to create something extraordinary. The combination of the patriotic theme, dramatic clouds, vibrant flags, vintage Coca-Cola bottles, and post-rain skies created the perfect recipe for images that felt both timeless and unique.
The girls absolutely crushed it. Every single one of them brought confidence, personality, and enthusiasm despite getting caught in a rainstorm just moments before.
We photographed individual portraits. We photographed group shots. We photographed candid moments. We photographed the kind of images that capture not only what senior year looks like, but what it feels like.
The final photographs ended up being even better than I had originally imagined.
Sometimes the best creativity happens when you’re forced to pivot. Instead of creating exactly what I had planned, we created something far more memorable.
Experiences like this are exactly why I love my Senior Rep Team so much.
It’s about more than photos.
It’s about friendships.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about creating experiences that become part of your senior year story.
Throughout the year, our team will participate in themed shoots, exclusive events, fun group sessions, and opportunities to make memories before graduation arrives.
The photos are important, of course. But the experience is what makes it truly special. Years from now, I hope these girls remember more than the final images. I hope they remember running through the rain & laughing under a barn while a Texas thunderstorm rolled through. I hope they remember waving flags in the wind and watching dramatic skies clear just in time.
I hope they remember feeling celebrated.
To my amazing Class of 2027 Senior Rep Team: Thank you for trusting me, for embracing the chaos, for showing up with positive attitudes when the weather could have easily sent us all home.
And thank you for proving that sometimes the most unexpected evenings create the most unforgettable photographs. This was only the beginning. If this session is any indication of what’s ahead, we are going to have an incredible year together.
I cannot wait to see where our adventures take us next.
Stay tuned because this rep team is just getting started, and trust me—you won’t want to miss what’s coming next.
