When you picture a senior portrait session at Lake Granbury, you probably picture something very Texas: a lake, boats, trees, warm sunshine, and maybe a little bit of that classic summer-at-the-lake feeling.

But what if we took that same Texas location and turned it into something completely different?

For this Poolville High School senior session at Lake Granbury, the goal was anything but traditional Texas lake portraits. Instead, we went for a California dream beach session—soft, romantic, editorial, and a little bit unexpected.

And honestly? I am obsessed with how it turned out.

Turning a Texas Lake Into a California-Inspired Senior Session

One of my favorite things about senior photography is that your location doesn’t have to dictate the entire look of your photos.

Lake Granbury gave us the water and natural landscape we needed, but I wanted the finished portraits to feel like they could have been photographed somewhere along the California coast.

That meant leaning into softer tones, dreamy scenery, movement, and a more editorial feel rather than making the lake itself the star of every image.

I also spent quite a bit of time in Photoshop transforming parts of the background to help create the dreamy beach aesthetic we envisioned.

The result?

A little Texas. A little California. And completely her.

Poolville High School Senior Portraits With a Destination Feel

You don’t always have to travel to California, Florida, or another destination to create senior portraits that feel like they belong somewhere completely different.

That’s one of the things I love most about creative senior sessions.

With the right styling, posing, lighting, location, and a little post-production magic, we can take a familiar Texas location and create something that feels completely unique.

For this session, the goal wasn’t simply to document what Lake Granbury looked like that day.

Lake Granbury is a beautiful option for senior portraits for students throughout the Weatherford and Parker County area, especially when we’re looking for water, open space, and a little more variety than a traditional field or urban location.

It’s also a great example of how a location can be photographed in completely different ways depending on the vision.

One session can feel rustic and completely Texas.

Another can feel like a California beach editorial.

That’s the fun part.
