One of my favorite times of the year for senior photos is during the summertime. Summer has always been a favorite season because the days are longer, relaxing, and feel so much sweeter. Keep reading to see why I love summer senior photos plus help you pick the best locations to brave the heat for senior photos in North Texas!

Why should you take senior photos during the summertime?
Hands down summertime is the BEST time to do senior pictures because you’re out of school and have more free time. Most seniors get their photos done one to two months before their senior year, instead of waiting last minute for fall/spring portraits. This allows you to have more time with friends, family, and extracurricular activities. Plus you have the whole year to post those gorgeous photos!

Now, let’s get to the details on why summer is the best time for senior sessions.
- Warm, golden sunsets. I absolutely love that warm, dreamy, golden light that summer sunsets bring. If you want the sun to create a halo light around you, summer will be your best bet for making it happen. Unlike fall or early spring, there is less chance of wind or being rushed for golden hour.
Golden light is so soft, it creates some of the most timeless images for your senior photo album.

2. Vibrant, blooming colors. Vibrant colors are my love language. Spring + summer are great for higher contrast colors that really make your photos pop. Fall and winter are suggested for those cooler cozy images that make you want to snuggle up in the softest fleece blanket!

3. Lake + water photos. If you are contemplating summer photos and know that your happy place is somewhere near water, this is the perfect reason to have photos taken May-August. You’ll want to enjoy the warm weather next to some complimenting cool places like a lake, creek, or river. One of my favorite locations is at a creek in Weatherford, and there’s also something SO unique about having your senior pictures taken in a canoe at sunset..

4 Sunflowers, and wildflowers are WORTH THE DRIVE. You never know if you’re going to get purple, yellow, white, or pink wildflowers in open fields. Sunflowers are especially popular for your senior photos in the summer, and they don’t keep very long so it’s best to schedule while they’re in full bloom. This sunflower farm is by far the best location around, and it’s only a few miles north of Waco!

5. Adventures, memories, time with friends. Senior year is time to make memories! And taking your senior pictures during the summertime is the start of that. You can bring friends or family to your session. Many choose to pick a location they’ve never been to, but want to adventure out of their hometowns. Either way, summer is your time to shine!
